TAILORED INSTRUCTION
All students are unique, and there is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all teaching method. I believe in taking a personalized approach with each and every student to attune to their specific needs and learning style.
POSITIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
I strive to make healthy connections with my students by instating positive reinforcement, giving honest feedback, and creating enjoyable lesson experiences. I like to balance my growth-driven mindset with kindness and patience so that the student can succeed while having fun doing it!
CREATIVITY & TECHNIQUE
My hope for all of my students is that they not only learn proper playing technique, but that they develop their own expressive and creative musical voice. I encourage them to ask questions and think critically.
Lessons take place at my home studio located in Charlotte, North Carolina.
What is the best age to begin lessons?
This is a very common question that I hear many parents ask! The best age can vary depending on various independent factors and preferences. However, I believe that early-elementary age is the best time to start. By this age, students have developed the motor skills and attention span needed to begin learning how to play piano, and they are old enough to express their individual interest in the art.
It is also important to acknowledge that some children may show interest and ability at an earlier age, while others might benefit from starting lessons later. Regardless of age, I always ensure that the teaching approach is age-appropriate and engaging, with a focus on the student's specific learning needs.
I am happy to chat with any parents who are curious to know if their child is ready to begin lessons!
"Susan taught piano to our daughter for six years and was nothing short of remarkable! She encouraged our daughter to build confidence, take risks, and become more expressive in her piano playing. On top of being a wonderful teacher, Susan is flexible with scheduling and great at communicating with parents. Overall, she is passionate about what she does, and it shows in the time she spends with her students."

Susan’s unique ability to combine practicality with professionalism sustains her integrity, both as a performer and a wonderful advocate, for the education of her students.
